Job Description

Overview:
The Pharmacy Attendant is responsible for performing technical supportive assistance within the pharmacy to include: assistance in the outpatient and inpatient drug distribution system; assisting in the ordering and supply functions; preparation and maintenance of appropriate records, reports and files.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or designee performs the following duties: Performs routine clerical duties such as answers telephone, take messages, distribute mail, operate office machines such as typewriter, CRT, adding machine, copying machine, microfiche and fax machine. Prepares, maintains, and retrieves departmental reports and correspondence to include: drug information requests, prescriptions, records of issuance for scheduled drugs, syringes, needles, tax-free alcohol, etc. Types all of the following as required: letters, memos, reports, forms, requisitions, bills, prescription labels and product labels. Performs distribution and billing functions in the unit dose drug system and the outpatient pharmacy, in an accurate, prompt and efficient manner. Performs routine ordering and supply functions including maintaining appropriate records and keeping abreast of current purchasing information concerning contract items, additions/deletions from formulary, etc. Effectively and courteously communicates with nurses, pharmacists, other technicians, facility personnel and patients concerning patient's pharmaceutical care needs. Enters information on new physician and/or new prescription data into terminal. Maintains a neat, clean, orderly and well-stocked work area in the unit dose, intravenous admixture, floor stock and outpatient pharmacy areas. Participates in pharmacy continuous quality improvement program, inspections of patient care units and other quality programs as assigned. Uses and is proficient in the operation of the pharmacy computer system. Perform all other related duties as assigned.
POSITION PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess physical abilities to endure prolonged standing, excessive walking, sitting, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Type a minimum of 30 words per minute accurately. Must be knowledgeable in good grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic skills in general mathematics. Three (3) to six (6) months on-the-job training is required to attain proficiency of performance of the assigned duties and responsibilities. Must not have any prior history of alcoholism, drug addiction, or indiscriminate use of habit-forming or dangerous drugs. Must not have a drug related felony conviction or criminal record.
