Job Description

Job Description The Pharmacy Operations Manager at Cedars-Sinai Medical in Los Angeles, California will oversee the central pharmacy operations and other department-level programs and functions. The central pharmacy is the hub for all distribution services for the medical center for area such as acute care patient care units, diagnostic/peri-procedural areas, various clinics, ambulatory infusion center. The manager ensures the pharmacy is compliant with state board requirements and other regulatory agencies. Oversees and maintains safe medication dispensing and non-sterile compounding. Collaborates with external departments to address medication needs and implementing inventory/control principles, storage and medication use workflows supporting various program needs. This positions has 35 direct reports. The manager also serves in the rotation as Administrator On Duty (AOD) for the Pharmacy Department and is instrumental in disaster and emergency preparedness planning for the department. What's this role all about? Serves as the subject matter expert for non-sterile compounding and prepackaging regulations and compliance and reference for medication storage regulations and compliance. Assists supply chain in assuring regulatory compliance for the receipt and distribution of pharmaceuticals. Recognized for expertise and knowledge of automation and technology in the Central Pharmacy. Oversees and participates in disaster preparedness and departmental response. Serves as an overseer of the technician-check-technician process. Responsible for hiring, training, corrective action, mentoring and performance of pharmacy staff. Responsible for training programs for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, residents, interns, students. Ensures staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols and regulatory requirements. Assists leadership in assessing and resolving operational issues and problems. Performs the duties of a pharmacist to support patient care needs. Actively participates in departmental performance improvement activities and continually assesses operational and clinical effectiveness of pharmacy services through quality improvement indicators. Collaborates with physicians, nursing and professional department leadership on process improvement opportunities and actively participates in medical center wide initiatives on effective and efficient care delivery. Functions as a positive, creative and effective leader, actively participating in departmental activities to ensure applying all policies fairly and consistently. Serves as the Pharmacy Administrator-On-Duty (AOD) on a rotating basis and serves as a liaison to patient care units and Nurse Administrator of the Day (AOD). Identifies opportunities and provides recommendations to improve procedures, practices and workflows. Engages team members to implement improvement efforts. Leads regular staff meetings to communicate information new policies, practices and procedures. Follows up on staff questions and/or concerns. Identifies items that would benefit from engaging external stakeholders. #LI-RD1
Qualifications Educational Requirements:
Pharm.

D. or equivalent degree from an accredited school of pharmacy Completion of PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency or equivalent practice experience preferred
License/Certification/Registration Requirements:
Current pharmacist licensure in the State of California. Board certification preferred BLS certification upon hire What else are we looking for? Prefer a candidate with a background in pharmacy operations Prefer Post Graduate PGY-1 or PGY-2 residency Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare disciplines to define and implement new clinical guidelines, workflow, or programs Exhibits capability to teach and serve as preceptor for pharmacy students and residents. Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards relative to Health-System Pharmacy. Demonstrates ability to prioritize projects to meet goals. Possesses ability to evaluate implications for the use of automated information systems with the development of clinical initiatives. Promotes a culture of medication safety
