Job Description

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active Pharmacist license, and minimum 1+ years Director of Pharmacy experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A hospital in Ottumwa, IA is seeking an experienced Director of Pharmacy to lead their inpatient pharmacy operations on a contract basis for 13 weeks, with possible extensions. This role offers a hands-on leadership opportunity managing a small but dedicated team and stabilizing pharmacy services.
Location:
Ottumwa, IA Schedule:
Monday through Friday, Day Shift; some flexibility required to assist with staffing coverage and occasional on-call duties.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee pharmacy operations in a hospital inpatient setting. Supervise a staff of 3 pharmacists and 4 pharmacy technicians. Manage staffing schedules and recruitment efforts to build a strong pharmacy team. Conduct meetings and represent the staffing organization externally. Maintain financial oversight typical of Director of Pharmacy duties in a smaller facility. Ensure compliance and monitor for any controlled substance issues, building on previous improvements. Utilize automated systems like Omnicell and manage medication orders through Meditech. Support sterile compounding operations and maintain quality standards.
Desired Qualifications:
Valid Iowa pharmacy license is mandatory. Proven pharmacy management experience, preferably in inpatient hospital settings. Hands-on knowledge of sterile compounding practices. Experience with Omnicell automation and Meditech order entry systems. Strong leadership skills with the ability to stabilize and improve pharmacy operations. Effective communication and team management abilities.
