Job Description

Director of Pharmacy - 📍 Peoria, IL At Optum, we are committed to helping people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone. Through CPS, part of the Optum family of businesses, we partner with hospitals across the country to deliver high-quality pharmacy services that improve patient outcomes. We are seeking a Director of Pharmacy to lead pharmacy services at a behavioral health hospital in Peoria, IL. In this role, you will oversee all aspects of pharmacy operations and collaborate closely with hospital leadership to ensure safe, effective, and compliant medication use. This is a full-time, onsite leadership position with a primarily Monday-Friday daytime schedule (8:00 AM-4:30 PM) and occasional weekend coverage. As the Director of Pharmacy, you will provide both strategic leadership and day-to-day operational oversight , including: Pharmacy Operations & Leadership Lead and manage all pharmacy services within the hospital Provide direction and support to pharmacists, technicians, and support staff Foster a culture focused on patient safety, quality, and team engagement Clinical & Medication Management Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use Oversee formulary management and medication-use policies Support clinical pharmacy practices and patient care initiatives Regulatory & Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, state and federal requirements) Maintain readiness for audits, surveys, and inspections Financial & Operational Performance Manage pharmacy budgets, purchasing, and cost-containment strategies Monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement Collaboration & Partnership Partner with hospital leadership and interdisciplinary teams Contribute to system-wide initiatives that support patient safety, quality, and outcomes Required Qualifications Active and unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of Illinois Degree from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program (PharmD preferred) Demonstrated experience leading pharmacy operations in a hospital or health system setting Experience with: Medication safety and clinical pharmacy practices Regulatory compliance and accreditation standards Budgeting, purchasing, and operational management Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate with interdisciplinary stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or inpatient care settings Familiarity with pharmacy systems such as Epic and/or Omnicell Experience driving process improvements and operational efficiencies Why Join Optum At Optum, you'll be part of a team dedicated to making care more effective, accessible, and compassionate.
