JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for maintaining the technical and professional staff, including; scheduling, training, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations. Other responsibilities include performance improvement, patient outcomes improvement, management of clinical activities, in-services, and other activities necessary to help department stay focused to it`s strategic plan. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager may also function as a staff pharmacist as the need arises. Responsibilities of this position include development, supervision, and coordination of all the activities of pharmacy services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides leadership and serves as a role model and resource person for all staff pharmacists and all technicians.
  • Supervises decentralized pharmacists including training, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations
  • Develops, implements, and reviews policies, procedures, and protocols that promote and support safe medication use and management
  • Develops, implements, and reviews policies, procedures, and protocols that promote and support safe medication use and management
  • Spends time with each decentralized pharmacist in his respective area in order to understand the functions, needs, and efficiencies of that pharmacist and that unit, in order to help improve pharmacy services in that hospital area.
  • Is a key player in making sure that the pharmacy department abides by all Joint Commission and Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings on a regular basis
  • Manages clinical activities that improve patient outcomes and also reduce pharmacy expenditures including therapeutic interchanges, pharmacist interventions, formulary review, drug protocols, antimicrobial stewardship program, adverse drug reactions, etc.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science or Pharm D degree in Pharmacy. A minimum of three years of hospital pharmacy experience and a demonstrated capacity for supervisory responsibility.
REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS
Registration and licensure by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary. A working knowledge of the hospital organization including nursing and pharmacy practices, regulations, laws, and familiarity with individual department functions. Must also be knowledgeable concerning laminar flow hood procedures, sterile technique, pharmacy procedures, and performance improvement activities. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, the general public, and to maintain professional, ethical, and effective working relationships with all professionals and paraprofessionals is necessary.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS
Maintain effective working relationships with pharmacy staff, nursing staff, and medical staff
PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES
Work is approximately 50% walking and standing and 50% sedentary. Near visual acuity required.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours of duty are largely regular but may vary to accommodate departmental requirements.
