Position Title Patient Services Associate - Retail Pharmacy Southlake Campus Position Summary /
Career Interest:
The Retail Pharmacy Patient Services Associate works collaboratively to ensure safe dispensing of medications to guests through in person interactions or via home delivery. Supports a patient centered environment by providing courteous and professional customer service. Assists patients, families, and visitors while maintaining confidentiality of patients. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Maintains compliance with HIPAA policies and regulations. Actively listens and operates computer systems to accurately obtain necessary demographic information and ensure appropriate and accurate billing/payment. Collects payment from guests or processes payments on file, as appropriate. Counts and verifies cash amounts collected. Operates the cash register, prescription dispensing system, and shipping software, when applicable, to accurately and safely dispense all prescriptions. Follows all department policies and work flows when dispensing prescriptions, including patient identification policies. Intakes/scans in prescriptions when hard copies are submitted at the counter. Initiates refills when requested by guests at the counter. Maintains the reserve change supply for the cash registers. Completes daily closing activities for cash registers, including the completion of deposit slips, as directed. Maintains appropriate supplies necessary to dispense prescriptions at their assigned station. Directs guests with potential problems to the supervisor or pharmacist, as appropriate. Offers to arrange for patient to receive counseling by the pharmacist in alignment with dispensing policies. Assists in the identification and removal of unclaimed prescriptions from the will-call bins. Contacts patients to facilitate pick-up or shipment of these prescriptions. Maintains over-the-counter (OTC) pharmacy inventory. Assures the OTC shelves are clean, stocked, and faced. Maintains up-to-date shelf stickers for pricing. Communicates with pharmacy purchasing coordinator or pharmacist when issues are identified with OTC inventory. Maintains the retail pharmacy waiting area as a clean and comfortable environment for guests. Notifies supervisor or pharmacist of any maintenance or cleaning needs within the waiting area. Uses a courteous and professional customer-focused approach while interacting directly or on the telephone with guests. Uses customer service and critical thinking skills to solve problems for all guests. Escalates problems to the appropriate team member for resolution: pharmacy technician, pharmacist, supervisor, or other personnel as appropriate. Participates in organizational and departmental performance improvement efforts and facilitating effective communication relative to these initiatives. Maintains a plan for personal development and completion of competency validation records. Participates in goal setting, ongoing development, and goals of team. Shares expertise by participating in the orientation and training of pharmacy employees and students. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
