Pharmacy Manager
REPORTS TO
Store Director and Director of Pharmacy Purpose To efficiently manage the operations of the pharmacy, including human resources functions and financial aspects; to provide prescription product and appropriate service and consultation to every customer; to supervise pharmacy technicians, and registered staff pharmacists in compliance with federal and state laws and store policies and procedures. Offer all pharmacy services allowed by law. Essential Functions
- Takes all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures regarding the sale of pharmaceuticals including: retrieves the product(s); counts, pours, or measures out the required quantity according to established company methods and procedures; affixes the label permanently to the container; performs a final audit of the prescription.
- Assists with and responds in a courteous and professional manner in accordance with customer service guidelines to questions from customers and physicians in regards to knowledge of prescription and health related products and issues.
- Offers advice and professional consultation in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
- Acts as a role model to the pharmacy team; efficiently handles customer complaints; directs pharmacy operations to keep wait times to a minimum.
- Is trained, proficient and actively participates in all clinical programs.
- Ensures the entire pharmacy team actively promotes and participates in a variety of Clinical Programs.
- Responds to telephone requests from customers, physicians, and vendors that require the expertise of the pharmacist.
- Communicates and cooperates with peers, subordinates, managers, physicians, and customers in all pharmacy related areas.
- Maintains CII ordering records, along with CII Monthly audits.
- Oversees maintenance of all state and federal record keeping for controlled substances.
- Holds bottom line responsibility for the financial performance of the pharmacy, including assisting with the budgeting process, monitoring pharmacy reports, having knowledge of direct competition; implementing pharmacy promotions.
- Directs and ensures timely implementation of company policies, procedures and programs; enforces professional and operational standards, including compliance with legal regulations.
- Ensures that all pharmacy staff are up to date on all mandatory training; including but not limited to; Medicare Fraud Waste and Abuse Training, HIPAA Training, and Federal Combat Methamphetamine Training. Essential Functions Under Certain Circumstances
- Accepts written prescription or refill information from customers; confirms completeness of patient's records and requests missing information as appropriate; and retrieves customers' pharmacy records for verification.
- Accesses the pharmacy computer to obtain complete patient records (on both cash and third party prescriptions) and verifies third party plan parameters.
- Orders product from distribution center or other appropriate source as necessary.
- Stocks pharmacy product orders to specific bay locations.
- Trains pharmacy technicians, clerks, graduate interns, student interns and registered staff pharmacists; provides feedback on their performance; and amplifies their professional understanding of their role in the pharmacy.
- Responsible for meeting all state regulations and company policies regarding pharmacy technician licensure and training.
- Maintains inventory levels to company goals; rotates stock; and utilizes RX return process.
- Builds and prints third party reports
- Operates customer sales register; accurately reads and records prices for items which will not scan.
- Totals customer orders; collects cash, checks, credit cards, gift certificates, and coupons from customer; and enters amount and type of payment in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
- Accurately counts out appropriate change to customers.
- Bags all products; affixes the receipt to the bag;
- Schedules pharmacy associates in accordance with company guidelines and customer demands.
- Participates in the hiring and interviewing process for technicians.
- Makes recommendations for promotion of staff pharmacists and technicians.
- Follows proper steps of corrective action when performance of a pharmacy team member does not meet company standards. o If head pharmacist, report discipline to Pharmacy Director or store director
- Adheres to Department Appearance Standards (DAS) and dress code standards; directs pharmacy team in maintaining the professional appearance of the pharmacy. Other Functions
- Knows the location of general over the counter merchandise.
- Manages the completion of all inventory reports.
- Monitors third party profitability by implementing the proper processing of third party plans
- Oversees the filing of papers, and keeps the pharmacy equipment and area clean and organized.
- Ensures that bags and vials are replenished; trash is removed; and floor is swept.
- Attends company meetings for purposes of training, coordinating plans, and communicating policies and procedures.
- Assists in merchandising and product selection in OTC area.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Store Director, Pharmacy Director, and Corporate Management.
- Actively participates in Clinical Programs (Immunizations, MTM, Health Screenings, etc.) and all other company sponsored programs. Environmental Factors

- Must have a college degree in Pharmacy (BS or PharmD).
- Must pass the NABLEX.
- Must pass the State Law Board.
- Must hold a valid state license.
- Must complete continuing education hours as required by law.
- Ability to readily adapt to changes in schedule specifications and work priorities as the business and customer needs demand.
- Ability to cooperate with others and work as part of a team.
- Must complete all required state, federal and company training programs (ie.
