This position plays a critical role in maintaining accurate patient records, supporting timely medication dispensing, and ensuring that prescription information is entered clearly, completely, and in compliance with pharmacy standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working with pharmacy software, and able to interpret medication orders from facilities, prescribers, electronic prescriptions, faxed documents, and eMAR systems. Key Responsibilities Enter new prescriptions, refill orders, medication changes, discontinuations, and facility requests into the pharmacy system. Accurately input patient demographics, prescriber information, drug name, strength, directions, quantity, refills, days supply, diagnosis codes, and facility details. Review incoming orders for completeness, clarity, and accuracy before entry. Identify missing, unclear, duplicate, or conflicting information and escalate concerns to a pharmacist, supervisor, or appropriate department. Process orders from faxes, electronic prescriptions, eMAR systems, facility portals, written orders, and other approved sources. Update patient profiles as needed, including allergies, facility location, room number, insurance details, and prescriber information. Prioritize urgent orders, new admissions, cycle-fill needs, STAT requests, and time-sensitive medication requests. Communicate with pharmacists and pharmacy staff to clarify prescription details and resolve order entry concerns. Maintain accurate documentation of order status, notes, corrections, and communications. Follow HIPAA standards and pharmacy confidentiality requirements at all times. Maintain productivity and accuracy standards established by the pharmacy. Support other pharmacy departments as needed during high-volume periods. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Strong typing skills with a high level of accuracy. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to read and interpret prescription orders and medication directions. Basic knowledge of pharmacy terminology, sig codes, medication strengths, and dosage forms. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Basic computer skills and ability to learn pharmacy software. Ability to follow pharmacy policies, procedures, and compliance standards. Preferred Qualifications Previous pharmacy inputting, data entry, or pharmacy technician experience. Long-term care pharmacy experience. Pharmacy technician license or registration, if required by state. Familiarity with eMAR systems such as QuickMAR, PointClickCare, MatrixCare, or similar platforms. Experience processing electronic prescriptions, faxed orders, facility medication orders, and physician orders. Knowledge of insurance entry, prior authorizations, rejected claims, and pharmacy workflow is a plus. Skills and Competencies High accuracy and strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently while also communicating effectively with the pharmacy team. Good judgment when identifying unclear or incomplete orders. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Professional communication with pharmacists, technicians, supervisors, facilities, and prescriber offices. Dependability, confidentiality, and accountability. Physical Requirements Ability to sit and type for extended periods. Ability to review computer screens and documents for extended periods. Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume pharmacy environment. Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift light office or pharmacy materials as needed.
