POSITION SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician fills prescribed medication for patients by selecting the proper medication, counting the tablets, labeling the bottles. Technicians set up and maintain patient profiles, call insurance companies, stock shelves and take inventory of prescription and over the counter medications. This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Achieve Results Acts as cashier, answers phone, receives written or electronic prescriptions or refills from providers or patients timely. Verifies and prepares the prescription by mixing and counting the medication in preparation for approval by pharmacist before dispensing to the patient. Acts in the interests of patients and other members of the public and seeks to provide the best possible healthcare for the community in partnership with all health professions. Operational Excellence Ensures all relevant patient information is collected and accurate, current, and completed in a timely manner. Ensures and upholds the confidentially requirements of all patient records, and manages all daily tasks and activities consistent with HIPAA, state and federal laws and regulations, Relationships Possess a positive relationship within and among the pharmacy staff as well as with other departments within the organization. Develop and maintain positive external relationships with vendors, contractors, and related resources. Leadership & Stewardship Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times. Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all corporate policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization.
P RIMARY TASKS AND DUTIES
  • Verifies and prepares prescriptions by mixing and counting the medication for approval by pharmacist before dispensing to patients.
  • Performs other duties such as cashier, answers telephone, files paperwork daily, checks inventory and stocks medication, updates patient information in the computer system, and keeps the pharmacy in a neat and organized manner.
  • Demonstrates a proactive approach in communicating with patients on their requests and needs, while preventing unnecessary trips to pharmacy by the patient.
  • Communicates with patients and co-workers in a polite and professional manner regardless of the situation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent or 15+ years of Pharmacy Tech experience
  • Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician Certificate Experience Minimal work experience
