Job Description
Pharmacy Technician Job Description The Pharmacy Technician supports prescription fulfillment by accurately preparing medication orders for pharmacist review. In this role, you select, label, scan, and package medications while maintaining an organized, compliant, and safety-focused work environment in accordance with pharmacy regulations and internal policies. Responsibilities Select medications from inventory and pre-pack storage areas based on daily prescription orders. Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification with a strong focus on accuracy, safety, and efficiency. Process daily medication orders in a timely manner while following established priorities and standard workflows. Assist with returned medications, including proper sorting, recycling, or disposal in line with pharmacy policies. Support pre-packaging of high-volume medications during slower order periods, including accurate labeling and restocking. Package medications and related materials by hand as required to meet order specifications. Follow all applicable federal and state regulations, including HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy and confidentiality. Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked workstations for each shift to support efficient operations. Notify the supervising pharmacist promptly of any issues such as scanning errors, product discrepancies, or inventory concerns. Adhere to departmental policies related to safety, attendance, and dress code. Be available to work overtime, weekend, and holiday shifts as business needs require. Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy operations. Essential Skills Experience working in a pharmacy or similar medication-handling environment. Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally. Pharmacy technician certification, demonstrating foundational knowledge of pharmacy operations and safety. Proficiency in data entry with high attention to detail and accuracy. Familiarity with prior authorization processes and related pharmacy workflows. Ability to follow detailed procedures and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Active Minnesota Pharmacy Technician license. Comfort working with pharmacy technology systems for scanning, labeling, and order processing. Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists and other team members. Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Work Environment This position is based in a closed-door pharmacy environment, focusing on prescription fulfillment rather than direct retail interaction. You will work primarily on 2nd shift, following a rotation of either 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with every other weekend scheduled. The work involves standing for extended periods, handling medications, operating scanning and packaging equipment, and working at organized workstations. The setting emphasizes regulatory compliance, safety, cleanliness, and adherence to a defined dress code appropriate for a professional pharmacy environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mendota Heights, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
