Job Description
One full-time position (40 hours per week) | Rotating hours M-F 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, rotating Saturday 8:30 am - 1:00 pm Job Duties The Pharmacy Technician contributes to the organization's overall goal to develop and sustain a centralized (and shared) pharmacy that serves all patients. Pharmacy technicians are registered and/or certified healthcare professionals who work closely with the pharmacist to ensure the safety and health of patients. They should have knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and basic clerical and record-keeping skills. They assist the pharmacist in locating, dispensing, packing, and labeling medications for the patient prior to dispensing. They will also provide support to the pharmacist with administrative task such as processing insurance cards, tracking inventory and filing paperwork. They will also provide interpretation and translation services. Pharmacy technicians' jobs will be classified as either level I, level II or level III based on licensing and skill set knowledge and mastery.
Pharmacy Technician I:
will be registered and licensed with the state Preparing and dispensing medications: pharmacy technicians locate measure, pack and label medications for patients.Assisting with administrative tasks:
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacist with tasks such as processing insurance claims, assist with weekly/monthly reporting, tracking inventory, filing paperwork and prescriptions, entering prescriptions into software system, enter/update patient information, accurately prepare and label medications, maintaining adequate supplies to perform your job, etc.Providing customer service:
answer phone calls, assist patients with medication pricing and ordering Quality assurance: accurately filing prescriptions, maintaining pharmacy dispensing machines, processing drug orders and reconstituting medications, maintain daily refrigerator logs, etc.Cleaning and organizing:
Replenishes, cleans, and maintains automated dispensing machines. Enters this information into the log books in accordance with manufacturer protocols and state/federal pharmacy statutes and regulations. Prepares pharmacy equipment at the end of the day for the next business day. (Stocks printers and fax machines with paper and labels, restocks vials and lids, cleans workstations and equipment, etc.)Inventory Control:
Checks inventory for outdated product, according to protocol. Assists with inventory management promptly. (ex: Forwards dating, returning medication to stock, pulling outdated medication, verifying recalled medications, etc.) The tasks outlined above are intended to provide a general overview of the role and are not an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or job functions. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to support the business, and responsibilities may evolve to meet the changing needs of the organization. High School graduate or equivalent required. Minimum of 18 years of age required. Current licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Nebraska is required. Must obtain Pharmacy Technician Certification in the time allocated by Nebraska Pharmacy Laws (NE-CPhT or PTCB). Strong computer skills in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel and Word, are required. Proficiency in both English and Spanish is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within first 30 days of employment. Effective communication skills (oral and written) along with strong organizational skills are required. Demonstrated ability to think critically and be resourceful when troubleshooting. Demonstrated math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division along with analytical problem-solving experience. Demonstrated working knowledge of medication classes, types, and utilization. Demonstrated understanding and awareness of assistance programs, community resources, and the needs of the low-income and medically underserved population. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups in a coordinating role.
