Job Description

Pharmacy Technician - Inpatient - Full-Time Days/Evenings FLEX Centralus Health, an affiliation of Arnot Health and Cayuga Health, is focused on our region's changing needs and your wellbeing. Job Summary:
Pharmacy Technicians - Inpatient assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. They also have additional training in compounding sterile medications both hazardous and non-hazardous, and must maintain competencies for each type of compounding per regulations. This technician role is more specialized than the Pharmacy Technician/outpatient and the Medication Historian technician roles. Pharmacy technicians/inpatient work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Procures and distributes medications per physician request, pharmacist request, or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols. Replenishes medications in automated dispensing units and emergency drug containers; rotates and manages stock before expiration date; generates reports, pick lists, and labels as required. Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations (including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition) safely and accurately using appropriate techniques. Complies with sterile compounding regulations and practices. Restocks medication and IV room areas accurately and in a timely manner. Repackages bulk medications in unit-dose packages safely and accurately per established procedures using appropriate techniques. Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations. Completes and documents all assigned medication storage areas inspections at least monthly; identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications. Maintains logs, records, pricing updates, and other required documentation accurately; files documentation in appropriate locations. Keeps pharmacy neat, clean, and well-organized; performs IV room terminal cleans; keeps pharmacy equipment clean. Answers phones and window and makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested. Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.
Required Skills and Experience:
Education:
High School diploma/equivalent. Experience - 2-3 years pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required. Must be at least 18 years old. Certification and Licensure - Must attain New York State licensure for Registered Pharmacy Technicians within the introductory period as this is a condition of hire. Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician Certification (CSPT) or Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT-Adv) is preferred but not required. P referred
Skills and Experience:
Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred Good written and oral communication skills preferred. Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.
Physical Requirements:
Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard) May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs.), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes, and IV solutions Stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves, and to file documents in lower file drawers) Sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary Must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
