08/25/2026 Job Description A Brief Overview The Pharmacy Technician 2 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 2 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All assigned activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist. What You Will Do For Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 2, activities include but are not limited to:- Accurate preparation of patient medications including non-sterile products and sterile products (including chemotherapy and TPN).
- Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
- Inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock.
- Orients and trains new staff. For Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 2, activities include but are not limited to:
- Utilizes pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
- Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
- Packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience. For Medication History Pharmacy Tech 2, activities include but are not limited to:
- Support medication history collection process for ED and inpatient units utilizing appropriate sources and communication.
- Communicate effectively with patients during the interview and accurately record the medication history.
- Maintain open communication with nurses, patient care technicians, practitioners, and other personnel in the hospital to report important findings.
- Duties may include those addressed above in the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Essential Functions.
