Full Job Description Job Title:
Pharmacy Technician•Prescription Benefits and Reimbursement (PBR) Job Description This role focuses on supporting patients, providers, and healthcare partners by accurately processing prescription insurance information, adjudicating pharmacy claims, and coordinating medication access in a call center environment. You will handle inbound calls, troubleshoot claim rejections, manage prior authorization workflows, and ensure precise documentation so patients receive timely and safe access to their medications. Responsibilities Locate and enter accurate prescription insurance information into patient profiles by processing eligibility checks and adjudicating pharmacy claims. Adjudicate pharmacy claims, identify and troubleshoot claim rejections, and ensure that clear, accurate information is communicated to patients. Communicate the need for medication prior authorization to providers and serve as a knowledgeable resource throughout the prior authorization process. Manage inbound calls from patients, clients, physicians, practitioners, and clinics regarding order status, available services, and financial support options. Serve as a technical resource on claim adjudication processes and identify opportunities to improve workflows and service quality. Enter detailed, accurate, and grammatically correct progress notes to ensure proper documentation in patient profiles. Contact patients to schedule medication delivery and payment, ensuring all information is correct so distribution can send packages accurately and on time. Manage patient refill coordination and follow up with patients to support adherence to their therapy plans. Identify and report adverse events and product complaints to clinicians to help ensure patient safety. Perform other related duties as assigned, which may vary depending on team or program requirements. Essential Skills 2+ years of prior experience working in a pharmacy or other healthcare setting. 2+ years of pharmacy operations experience, including exposure to call center or high-volume environments. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred, current, without restrictions, and in good standing. Pharmacy technician certification and experience working as a pharmacy technician. Experience with insurance eligibility verification and prior authorization processes. Competence in basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft applications. Strong data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. Customer service skills, including handling inbound calls and addressing patient and provider inquiries. Ability to troubleshoot claim rejections and serve as a technical resource for adjudication. Conscientious and detail oriented, with a demonstrated ability and desire to solve problems for patients. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting to accomplish shared goals. Highly motivated, committed to excellence, and able to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment. NC Board of Pharmacy registration (NCBOP) preferred. High school diploma required. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a specialty pharmacy or similar setting supporting patients with complex or rare diseases. Prior experience in a call center environment handling high call volumes and multiple types of inquiries. Strong written communication skills to document clear and grammatically correct progress notes. Ability to explain insurance benefits, claim outcomes, and financial support options to patients in a clear and empathetic manner. Comfort working with multi-disciplinary teams including clinicians, pharmacists, and support staff. Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and improving patient outcomes. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and professionalism. Work Environment This position is based in a call center environment with no direct face-to-face patient contact. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with core hours from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The operation is open only on weekdays and closes for major holidays. Team members work onsite Monday through Friday, and if converted to a permanent role, may transition to a hybrid schedule that combines onsite and remote work. The setting is an office environment that supports a large, rapidly growing specialty pharmacy focused on simplifying access to medications and delivering personalized care. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to helping patients with rare and complex conditions, in a culture that emphasizes employee engagement, patient safety, and high-quality service. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cary, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00•$24.00/hr.
