Job Description

Registered Pharmacy Technician Summary:
Pharmacy technicians perform, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, a variety of technical support functions in a pharmacy. Pharmacy technicians receive, care for, store, distribute, bulk compound, prepackage, prepare sterile solutions, and set up medications for a final check by a pharmacist.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience and Training:
Must be a High School Graduate with 40 hours with pharmacist using pharmacy computer and mixing I.V.'s under hood, understand drug incompatibilities, interactions and use for drugs and be able to perform dosage calculations. Training ties into job to be performed.
Knowledge:
Must be knowledgeable of specific technical pharmacy techniques and procedures involved in the given work situation. Knowledge of basic arithmetic computation.
Personal Skills:
Must be able to get along well with all hospital and clinic personnel. Able to organize work when performing bulk compounding, repackaging, and other routine functions. Able to follow oral instructions and read and understand pharmaceutical nomenclature.
Performance Requirements:
Planning Duties:
Must be able to plan duties according to priorities of job Organizing and coordinating duties: Check eMAR against pharmacy patient profile. Check all E.R. and after hour pharmacy logs against physicians orders and eMAR's. Decision making -
Resourcefulness and Initiative:
Verify controlled substance utilization and restock medication stocks, then reconcile report to stocks
Internal and External Contacts:
Will have internal and external contact will all departments of the hospital and with physicians. Also will have contact with vendor representatives.
Work Performance Daily:
Fill medication orders, Billing and data entry per patient via physician orders, and eMAR's, preparing med carts and mixing I.V., floor stock checking, cleaning, ordering, and restocking
Weekly:
Help with removing (quarantining) out-of-date products and getting what is needed replaced
Monthly:
Checking stock for expired medications Physical and mental requirements for this job: Physical requirements: The technician must be mobile to continually work from pharmacy to all areas of the hospital where drugs are utilized; much walking and being on feet throughout the shift are essential.
Mental requirements:
A positive attitude, a pleasant demeanor and an elevated level of intelligence. Ability to problem solve is important.
Work environment:
Well lighted, air conditioned and heated pharmacy area. Clean and well equipped.
Equipment used:
Computer, telephone, pens, computer supplies and other supplies as necessary to accomplish duties of department. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
