Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates competency and adherence to all required elements of United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapters 795, 797, and 800 according to ISMP guidelines. Ensures compliance with hazardous waste collection and disposal procedures. Responsible for training new technicians and pharmacists with respect to Mercyhealth IV clean room and anteroom procedures. Prepares all intravenous solutions including Dialysate, Epidural, TPN, Investigational, and Chemotherapy. Orders, restocks and maintains IV room inventory (chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy) and provides general maintenance of IV stock area, including monitoring of outdated drugs and Beyond Use Dating. Places IV drug order (chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy) with wholesaler and processes receipt and restocking of drugs when delivered. Monitors Dispense Prep accuracy and compliance. Monitors accuracy and timeliness of IV medication administration utilizing electronic medication administration record. Performs duties of Pharmacy Purchaser in his/her absence. Participates in annual inventory process. Processes and enters patient charges (if applicable), and ancillary department charges into the computer. Ability to work at multiple Mercyhealth hospital pharmacies.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred Must be cross trained and able to work proficiently and independently at designated pharmacy locations To obtain and maintain a Pharmacy Technician Level 3 status, the pharmacy technician must demonstrate proficiency in Chemotherapy preparation, knowledge of USP Chapters 795 (Pharmaceutical Compounding - Nonsterile Preparation), 797 (Pharmaceutical Compounding - Sterile Preparation), and 800 (Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs).
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Pharmacy Technician Licensure required Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Certification through NHA required.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION
Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but the incumbent must make minor decisions in order to adapt to routine situations.
