Contract / Federal Healthcare Assignment Position Overview Advantage Staffing Services is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician to support the Health Services Department at Federal Correctional Institution in Glenville, West Virginia. This is a long-term federal contract opportunity providing pharmacy services within a secure correctional healthcare environment. The initial contract period is anticipated to be 12 months, with additional option years that may extend the assignment for up to five years. The Pharmacy Technician will work under the direction of facility pharmacists and healthcare leadership to support medication preparation, inventory management, pharmacy operations, electronic documentation, and patient-care activities. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working within a highly structured environment, and able to maintain strict professional and security boundaries. Schedule Monday through Friday Approximately 6:00 AM-1:30 PM Approximately 35 hours per week 30-minute unpaid meal period may apply Federal holidays excluded Exact daily schedules are established by the facility Schedule adjustments may occasionally occur based on correctional operations or institutional needs Key ResponsibilitiesPharmacy Operations & Medication Support Assist pharmacists with ordering, receiving, stocking, storing, preparing, and dispensing prescription and non-prescription medications. Prepare Pill Line medication cards and unit-dose medications. Support Pyxis or equivalent automated medication-dispensing systems. Maintain appropriate pharmacy inventory while monitoring expiration dates and formulary requirements. Stock and monitor the main pharmacy, satellite locations, crash carts, emergency medication bags, Night Stock cabinets, and automated dispensing systems. Maintain narcotic counts and needle and syringe inventories. Restock and audit medication storage areas and automated dispensing systems. Maintain pharmacy forms, supplies, and inventory records. Work within established pharmacy budgets, formularies, policies, and procedures. Quality, Safety & Compliance Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and sanitary pharmacy environment. Complete required Pharmacy Technician competency modules and facility training. Maintain knowledge of formulary updates and pharmacy procedures. Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and automated medication systems. Participate in quality-assurance, performance-improvement, and pharmacy-directed initiatives. Follow accepted Pharmacy Technician standards of practice and applicable federal and state requirements. Support compliance with Joint Commission standards and correctional healthcare accreditation requirements. Follow infection-control, sanitation, medication-safety, and workplace-safety procedures. Electronic Records & Administrative Support Utilize the facility electronic medical record and pharmacy-related computer systems. Complete required electronic documentation. Scan and file documents and maintain patient and pharmacy records. Prepare call-outs, memoranda, correspondence, and other required documentation. Answer telephones and support patient scheduling. Maintain stock and inventory records. Submit required reports, evaluations, records, and documentation accurately and on time. Patient Interaction Receive patients professionally and explain procedures when appropriate to reduce unnecessary anxiety. Follow healthcare directives, facility policies, and local procedures during patient encounters. Treat all patients professionally, respectfully, and without discrimination. Communicate appropriately with pharmacists, physicians, nursing staff, administrative personnel, and other healthcare representatives. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with the inmate population. Information intended for an inmate must be communicated through authorized facility healthcare personnel when required by facility policy. Correctional Facility Responsibilities Because this position is located inside a secure federal correctional institution, the Pharmacy Technician must: Maintain constant security awareness. Follow all institution security procedures and staff instructions. Comply with facility sign-in/sign-out, identification, badging, and access requirements. Maintain strict professional boundaries with inmates. Immediately report institutional rule violations or security concerns. Document inmate infractions when directed by authorized facility personnel. Protect sensitive institutional, medical, and operational information. Complete all required institution familiarization, security orientation, and training before beginning independent work. The Pharmacy Technician will not supervise inmates or facility employees, participate in inmate accountability, or independently establish facility policies or procedures.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must:
Have successfully completed a formal Pharmacy Technician Program. Have at least one year of Pharmacy Technician experience. Hold current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification. Hold appropriate Pharmacy Technician certification and/or registration as applicable. Demonstrate working knowledge of pharmacy equipment, computer systems, automated medication systems, medication safety, sanitation, and infection-control practices. Be capable of performing medication-related duties within the authorized Pharmacy Technician scope of practice and under pharmacist direction. Communicate professionally with pharmacists, physicians, nurses, healthcare staff, administrative personnel, peers, and inmates. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize, report, and document relevant clinical or operational concerns. Correctional healthcare experience is preferred but not required. Security & Background Requirements The selected candidate must successfully complete all federal security and facility-access requirements prior to beginning work, which may include: Public Trust background investigation Federal fingerprinting Personnel security documentation Identity verification Potential credit review Personal Identity Verification (PIV) and badging requirements Verification of citizenship or qualifying residency status Submission of required original identity documents Employment and assignment are contingent upon successful federal security clearance and written authorization to enter the institution. Health Requirements The selected Pharmacy Technician must: Be free from communicable or infectious diseases that could present a risk to patients, staff, inmates, or the public. Provide required health documentation, which may include tuberculosis screening and documentation of immunity or other communicable-disease testing. Maintain all required licenses, registrations, certifications, and health clearances throughout the assignment. Immediately report any adverse action affecting a professional license, registration, or certification. Professional Attire Professional attire is required. Khaki and green clothing are prohibited, as these colors are associated with the inmate population.
