Job Description

Overview A Hospital Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all ages, including emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and intensive care patients. They ensure accurate specimen collection, proper labeling, and timely delivery to the laboratory while maintaining patient safety, comfort, and compliance with hospital policies. Responsibilities Draw blood from patients using venipuncture or fingerstick techniques. Verify patient identity and explain collection procedures. Label, process, and transport specimens accurately. Maintain sterile equipment and follow infection control protocols. Record patient information and specimen collection details. Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure equipment is functioning properly. Follow all HIPAA, OSHA, and facility policies and procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Compltion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred.
