We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our team at Chambers Memorial Hospital. The PRN Phlebotomist will be responsible for obtaining blood samples from patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring proper labeling and handling of specimens for diagnostic testing. This role requires excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipunctures and capillary punctures to collect blood samples from patients of all ages.
- Properly label and prepare specimens for laboratory testing.
- Follow strict safety protocols, including infection control and proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Accurately document procedures and patient interactions in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Respond to STAT and routine collection orders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Perform quality checks on specimen collection equipment and stock supplies as needed.
- Assist with other laboratory duties as assigned by the supervisor or lab manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Phlebotomy certification from an accredited program preferred but not required.
Experience:
Previous experience in a clinical or hospital setting as a phlebotomist is preferred but not required.- Familiarity with Computer based systems like Windows is required.
- Ability to work on-call, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts as needed.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction.
Working Conditions:
- May involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
- Must be able to stand for long periods and be comfortable using equipment such as centrifuges and barcode scanners.
