Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a skilled phlebotomist to join our surgical hospital laboratory team. The ideal candidate will collect blood samples, handle specimens according to hospital standards, and provide compassionate care to patients preparing for surgery. This role ensures timely and accurate sample processing to support laboratory testing and surgical procedures. Key Responsibilities Perform venipunctures and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages, including pre- and post-surgical patients. Label and process specimens accurately to maintain chain-of-custody and prevent sample contamination. Prepare patients for laboratory procedures, explaining collection techniques and addressing concerns calmly and professionally. Maintain strict adherence to hospital and laboratory safety protocols, including infection control and biohazard handling. Collaborate with laboratory staff and clinical teams to ensure timely delivery of samples for testing. Monitor inventory of collection supplies and alert supervisors when replenishment is required. Participate in quality assurance and compliance programs to support laboratory accreditation requirements. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a phlebotomy training program required. Phlebotomy certification preferred (e.g., NCPT, AMT,ASCP). Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory environment. Knowledge of blood collection techniques, specimen processing, and laboratory safety standards. Strong communication skills, patient care orientation, and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with surgical and laboratory teams in a fast-paced environment. Physical and Work Requirements Able to stand for extended periods and handle patients with varying degrees of mobility. Comfortable with repetitive motion, including drawing blood, labeling tubes, and handling equipment. Capacity to respond effectively in urgent surgical situations requiring immediate specimen collection.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
