Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description This role focuses on providing high-quality phlebotomy and specimen processing services in an OB/GYN medical office. The phlebotomist collects and receives biological specimens, accurately enters patient and specimen information into the laboratory computer system, prepares samples for analytical testing, and ensures proper distribution to the appropriate analytical areas. The position supports both pre- and post-analytical phases of testing, performs specified analytical tests as assigned, and consistently follows established ethical and professional guidelines. Responsibilities + Draw blood from patients, with a particular focus on OB/GYN patients and those with difficult veins, using safe and effective phlebotomy techniques. + Collect, label, and receive biological specimens accurately and completely, ensuring proper patient identification and specimen integrity. + Enter patient and specimen information into the company's computer system with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. + Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including centrifugation and other specimen processing steps, according to established protocols. + Distribute prepared specimens to the appropriate analytical departments or testing areas in a timely and organized manner. + Support both pre-analytical and post-analytical phases of laboratory testing by following standard operating procedures and quality guidelines. + Perform specified analytical testing as assigned, adhering to all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. + Work closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff in the physician's office to coordinate patient flow and ensure a positive patient experience. + Provide compassionate and professional patient care, helping patients feel comfortable and informed during blood draws and specimen collection. + Follow the organization's Code of Conduct and all applicable policies, procedures, and compliance standards in daily work. + Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper handling and disposal of sharps and biohazard materials. + Contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented environment by communicating effectively and supporting colleagues as needed. Essential Skills + At least 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a clinical or physician office setting. + Demonstrated ability to perform blood draws confidently, including on OB/GYN patients and difficult draws. + Hands-on experience with specimen collection and processing, including preparing samples for analytical testing. + Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture and safe handling of needles and blood collection equipment. + Experience entering patient and specimen data into a laboratory or clinical computer system with accuracy. + Strong patient care skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients. + Ability to work effectively as a team player and collaborate with medical assistants and other clinical staff. + High school diploma or GED. + Commitment to following ethical guidelines and a formal Code of Conduct in all aspects of work. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Previous experience working specifically with OB/GYN patients is highly desirable. + Demonstrated success managing difficult blood draws and patients with challenging veins. + Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with patients and colleagues. + Ability to adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently. + Interest in career growth within a large healthcare and laboratory services organization that offers internal promotion opportunities. + Motivation to advance on a structured career ladder, including progression to higher-level phlebotomy roles. Work Environment This position is based in an OB/GYN physician's office in Scottsdale, where the phlebotomist works on-site and draws blood from the physician's patients. The typical schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The role involves close collaboration with medical assistants and other clinical staff in a professional outpatient setting. Work includes frequent patient interaction, use of standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, and routine computer-based data entry. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scottsdale, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
