Responsibilities:
Facilitate the collection, processing, and shipping of blood and urine specimens with accuracy and attention to detail. Perform venipuncture procedures to collect blood specimens safely and efficiently. Observe and collect urine specimens from patients, including supervised and observed collections. Properly identify patients before specimen collection, ensuring compliance with departmental policies. Accurately label, document, and prepare specimens for shipment to the laboratory. Demonstrate excellent customer service and compassion when interacting with diverse patient populations, healthcare providers, and clinic staff. Communicate effectively with patients and team members, reacting appropriately to various situations. Follow Universal Precautions and OSHA standards when handling specimens and maintain strict compliance with HIPAA guidelines. Inform supervisors of low-volume shifts, unusual challenges, or procedural deviations. Maintain a clean, organized workspace and ensure all supplies are stocked appropriately.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 6 months of recent, paid venipuncture experience; no new graduates accepted. Proven ability to provide excellent customer service in clinical settings. Reliable, with a strong work ethic and professional demeanor. Strong computer skills, including managing multiple programs, email, and report generation. Fast, accurate data entry skills and attention to detail. Clear, concise communication abilities, demonstrating credibility and confidence in interactions. Nice to
Have Skills:
Experience with observed or supervised specimen collection procedures. Familiarity with laboratory information systems or electronic medical records. Knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA regulations specific to specimen handling and patient privacy.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience as a clinical medical assistant, phlebotomist, or in a similar healthcare support role preferred.
Other Requirements:
Must possess or be able to obtain an AZ Fingerprint Card and successfully clear criminal background and FBI fingerprint checks. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for floating between multiple sites. Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform activities such as bending, stooping, and reaching. Flexibility to work varying schedules based on site needs, including early mornings, afternoons, and potential rerouting for coverage. Schedule typically involves 40 hours per week, with shifts from 4:30 am to 1:00 pm or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, scheduled two weeks in advance. This position offers competitive pay of $18.00 per hour, mileage reimbursement at $0.725 per mile for work outside of designated sites, and ongoing temporary employment with the potential for extension.
