Position Summary We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and compassionate Lead Phlebotomist to oversee the daily operations of our phlebotomy team while providing exceptional patient care. The Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary collections, ensuring compliance with laboratory and regulatory standards, coordinating staff schedules, training new employees, and maintaining efficient workflow within the laboratory. Ranging locations for LA County and Upland Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform venipuncture, capillary puncture, and specimen collection on patients of all ages. Verify patient identity and accurately label, process, and prepare specimens for transport and testing. Lead, coach, and mentor phlebotomy staff to maintain high standards of quality and customer service. Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and competency assessments for new team members. Coordinate daily staffing assignments and adjust workflow to meet patient volume. Monitor specimen quality and ensure compliance with laboratory procedures and safety regulations. Maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies and submit supply orders as needed. Troubleshoot collection issues and resolve patient or staff concerns professionally.

Set up patient service centers. Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, CAP, and applicable California Department of Public Health regulations. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings. Maintain accurate documentation and electronic health records. Collaborate with laboratory personnel, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely patient care. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) or CPT II certification required. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of phlebotomy experience, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role preferred. Experience with outpatient, inpatient, and pediatric collections is highly desirable. Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and laboratory information systems (LIS). Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity required for specimen collection and laboratory equipment operation. Ability to work in a clinical environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens while following standard precautions. Schedule Full-time Monday-Friday with rotating weekends and holidays as needed. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual in English and Spanish. Experience in a hospital, outpatient laboratory, or multi-site healthcare organization. Previous experience with quality assurance, regulatory inspections, and performance improvement initiatives.
