Duties:

Phlebotomists must provide clinical laboratory services in support of VACCHCS providers. Phlebotomist must provide direct and indirect patient care. Phlebotomists are responsible for providing routine and STAT testing on blood, urine, and other body fluids Services, including, but not limited to: Collecting, transporting, processing, and evaluating specimen suitability for testing, including receiving, delivering, and storing specimens for all lab sections. Phlebotomists shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards. phlebotomist shall be responsible for accurately identifying patients, obtaining the proper specimens, recognizing and immediately reporting adverse patient reaction to venipuncture procedures. Phlebotomist shall make every effort to prevent specimen mislabels, multiple venipuncture procedures on the same patient while providing care.

Qualifications:

Required to have a minimum of 6 months of direct patient care experience performing venipunctures in a clinic or hospital setting. Required to have a current, active certificate by the State of California as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician. Required to be highly reliable in providing services and support that meet or exceed customer requirements and expectations. All contract phlebotomist personnel shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Required to have basic typing and PC computer skills. Must have an active BLS (AHA preferred.

Additional Information:

Hours of operations: VACCHCS Laboratory operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week; including Federal Holidays. Required to work rotating 8-hour shifts, including morning, evening, and graveyard shifts, with a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks.
