This is a Union represented position and is represented by AFSCME Local 2703. Position Summary Under general supervision, the Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens and other laboratory samples according to established procedures and preparing specimens for laboratory testing. This position performs specimen collection, labeling, processing, and documentation activities while supporting the efficient flow of patient specimens throughout the laboratory. The Phlebotomist also performs routine laboratory support functions, maintains accurate patient and specimen records, and assists with patient registration and clerical duties as assigned. Key Responsibilities Collect blood specimens and other laboratory samples using established collection procedures. Properly identify, label, prepare, and process specimens for laboratory testing. Prepare and transport specimens to appropriate laboratory locations for processing and analysis. Accurately enter patient information, specimen data, and collection times into laboratory information systems and medical records. Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records related to specimen collection and laboratory activities. Assist with patient registration, admitting forms, and related clerical documentation as assigned. Perform routine laboratory support duties and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment as directed. Ensure proper handling, storage, and transport of laboratory specimens. Provide courteous and professional service to patients, visitors, providers, and staff. Comply with District policies, laboratory procedures, infection prevention standards, quality assurance expectations, and applicable regulatory requirements. Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard protected health information. Work collaboratively with laboratory personnel, nursing staff, providers, and other departments to support efficient patient care and laboratory operations. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Wage Range:
Based on union placement within the listed wage range.
Shift Differentials:

Current Health Care Provider CPR certification required. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous phlebotomy, laboratory, hospital, or healthcare experience preferred.
