Job Title:
Phlebotomist II Job Description The Phlebotomist II plays a key role in delivering high-quality patient care by performing blood draws and other specimen collections in a fast-paced, high-volume cancer patient services center. This role supports daily laboratory operations through accurate specimen processing, troubleshooting issues, training support, and recommending workflow improvements to help the team operate efficiently and safely. Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and other blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles with a high degree of accuracy and patient care. Collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures and specific test requirements. Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture, blood draw procedures, and other specimen collection processes (such as urine or fecal collection) to patients. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport, following protocols to maintain specimen integrity, including correct temperature control and appropriate collection containers or tubes. Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures in accordance with laboratory standards and regulatory guidelines. Update patient information accurately in the system and ensure all documentation is complete and correct. Understand and follow all physicians' orders related to laboratory testing and specimen handling. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and infection control procedures. Attend annual departmental trainings and stay current with required policies, procedures, and best practices. Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries as appropriate. Contribute to workflow improvements by identifying issues, assisting with troubleshooting, and making recommendations to enhance efficiency. Collaborate with other phlebotomists and laboratory staff to ensure smooth, timely, and accurate patient service in a high-volume environment. Essential Skills Proven experience performing venipunctures and blood draws in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a high-volume lab or hospital environment. Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required. Demonstrated proficiency in specimen collection, labeling, centrifugation, processing, and storage. Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes and verify test orders. Strong understanding of venipuncture techniques using both straight needles and butterfly needles. Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA and DEP regulations and standard safety protocols. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with geriatric and cancer patient populations in a clinical or laboratory setting. Comfort working both independently and as part of a team of phlebotomists Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Inverness, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $16.00 - $21.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
