Job Description

The Phlebotomist / Allergy Assistant is responsible for performing venipuncture and specimen collection procedures, assisting with allergy testing and treatment services, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, and supporting providers in delivering high-quality patient care. This position requires excellent patient interaction skills, attention to detail, and adherence to all safety, infection control, and regulatory requirements. Delivers direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician practices policies, procedures and protocols. Phlebotomy Responsibilities Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages. Correctly identify patients using approved patient identification procedures. Label, process, and prepare specimens for laboratory testing. Ensure proper specimen handling, storage, and transportation procedures are followed. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Monitor inventory of phlebotomy and laboratory supplies and notify management of shortages. Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and infection control standards. Respond appropriately to adverse patient reactions during blood collection procedures. Allergy Assistant Responsibilities Prepare patients for allergy testing and treatment procedures. Assist providers with skin prick testing, intradermal testing, patch testing, and pulmonary function testing as directed. Administer allergy immunotherapy injections in accordance with physician orders, office protocols, and state regulations. Monitor patients during post-injection observation periods and promptly report adverse reactions. Document allergy testing results, injections, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record. Prepare and maintain treatment rooms and testing areas. Assist with biologic therapy administration and patient monitoring as directed. Educate patients on allergy treatment plans, injection schedules, and office protocols. Clinical Support Responsibilities Escort patients to examination rooms and obtain vital signs when needed. Review and update patient demographic and medical information. Assist providers with examinations and procedures as requested. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Ensure examination and treatment areas remain clean, organized, and properly stocked. Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives. Support workflow efficiency and provide excellent customer service to patients and families. Administrative Responsibilities Accurately document clinical activities in the electronic health record. Complete required logs, reports, and quality control documentation. Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and other clinical administrative tasks as assigned. Correctly identify patients using approved patient identification procedures. Monitor inventory of phlebotomy and laboratory supplies and notify management of shortages. Adhere to OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and infection control standards. Respond appropriately to adverse patient reactions during blood collection procedures. Perform Additional Duties as Assigned and Required. Preferred Qualifications Experience in allergy, asthma, immunology, ENT, pulmonology, or other specialty medical practice. Medical Assistant certification. Experience administering allergy immunotherapy injections. Experience with electronic medical record systems.
