Job Description

Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description This role focuses on providing high-quality phlebotomy services, including blood draws and specimen collection, while supporting workflow efficiency, troubleshooting issues, and assisting with training as needed. The Phlebotomist II ensures accurate specimen handling, maintains regulatory compliance, and delivers courteous, patient-centered service across all age groups. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles, including hard-stick patients, across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations. Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols. Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients to ensure understanding and comfort. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and fully understand all physicians' orders to ensure accurate testing. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders, maintaining specimen integrity. Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against orders or scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature control, appropriate collection containers or tubes, and accurate labeling according to protocol. Follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity during handling and transport. Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a safe and compliant work area. Update patient information accurately in the appropriate systems or documentation. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and regulatory guidelines. Attend annual department trainings to maintain current knowledge of procedures, safety standards, and best practices. Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries as appropriate. Assist in troubleshooting workflow issues, making recommendations for process improvements, and supporting training efforts within the department. Essential Skills Minimum of 2 year of phlebotomy experience required for employment. 2+ years of recent phlebotomist experience in a hospital or specialty clinic setting strongly preferred. Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draws, and venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles. Demonstrated ability to perform specimen collection, including blood, urine, and fecal specimens. Experience working with pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Strong skills in specimen processing, including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and packaging specimens. Ability to manage hard-stick venipuncture and difficult blood draws confidently and safely. Customer service skills with the ability to interact courteously and clearly with patients and clinical staff. Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify test orders. Understanding of OSHA and DEP regulations and commitment to following safety and regulatory requirements. High school diploma (HS diploma). Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in kidney care or nephrology is a plus. Experience handling inquiries and communicating laboratory results over the phone. Comfort with updating patient information and recording maintenance data accurately. Ability to attend and actively participate in annual departmental trainings. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining specimen integrity throughout the collection and transport process. Work Environment This position is based in an outpatient nephrology and kidney care clinic. The role involves working in a laboratory and clinical environment that includes specimen collection, processing, and packaging for transport. Standard safety and infection control procedures apply, and staff follow OSHA and DEP regulations. The environment requires working with patients of all ages, including those who may be hard sticks, and collaborating closely with clinical and laboratory teams in a professional, patient-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Villa Rica, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
