JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, the phlebotomist obtains and prepares specimens for analysis. The phlebotomist must demonstrate the ability to work with neonates, infants, children, adults, and geriatric persons. He or She participates in performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability topetentlyplete on-the-job training provided within the department.
  • A minimum of 1 year of previous health care experience in a direct patient care related role. Prior lab experience preferred.
  • Certification as a nursing assistant is preferred not required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS required. New employees certify within three (3) months after hire date.
  • Ability to read andmunicate effectively in English.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Basicputer knowledge.
  • Basic clerical skills.
  • Ability to learn phlebotomy skills and perform phlebotomy procedurespetently.
  • Ability tomunicate with tact and professionalism.
  • Flexibility for shift rotation within the department.
