We have an exciting opportunity for you to join Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center which is part of the nation's leading provider of healthcare services, HCA Healthcare. Job Summary and Qualifications Performs invasive and non-invasive procedures for the procurement of blood and body fluids for laboratory testing . Under general supervision, the employee will be responsible for implementing established standard operating procedures to perform quality venipuncture, capillary sticks, skin tests, Glucose Tolerance tests and urine collections . Assists the health care team in accurate , safe, and reliable collection and transportation of specimens for laboratory analysis . Uses computer data entry skills to ensure accurate and quality reporting of patient results.
- Greets and determines needs of patients or visitors immediately upon arrival to the Laboratory Department.
- Establishes good rapport with patients, visitors, physicians and their office staff while promoting a positive hospital image and creating a favorable first impression .
- Directs patient flow in a smooth, systematic, continuous and timely manner to ensure that quality patient care is provided in an efficient and effective manner.
- Assists in the training of new employees.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform work in an accurate and timely manner in periods of stress and emergency situations . Must be able to remain calm and confident in a stressful working environment.
- Performs high quality venipuncture, capillary sticks, and urine collections in accordance with established department procedures.
- Maintains a blood culture contamination rate at or below national standards.
- Makes decisions regarding collection methods and techniques to be used.
- Collects throat swabs and performs skin tests.
- Washes glassware, checks pH, and documents
- Performs and documents preventative maintenance on dishwashing equipment.
- Assists in inventory and maintenance of supplies.
- Utilizes laboratory computer system , and handheld phlebotomy devices.
- Performs therapeutic phlebotomies.
- Performs related work as required .
- Accurately labels and delivers specimens to correct department.
- Schedules laboratory tests and gives instructions to outpatients on specimen collection.
- Uses telephone system efficiently and courteous to all customers.
- Receives and transcribes verbal orders.
- Resource for admissions/billing office personnel on laboratory medical necessity .
- Collates and completes lab test orders per federal regulations for filing in Health Information Management.
- Batches daily charges for data processing.
- Promotes effective working relationships by maintaining open lines of communication between hospital employees, directors, physicians and offices.
- Effectively relates to customers and demonstrates service oriented attitude.
- Position has frequent interaction with in-house physicians, nursing staff and administrative personnel, therefore, must have sensitivity, maturity and ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Adheres to the Hospital's policies and demonstrates compliance with the Code of Ethics and the Laboratory Billing Compliance Plan.
- Adheres to the Hospital's Safety Policies and demonstrates safe practices in patient care areas.
- Participates in Continuing Education activities.
- Completes mandatory in services within allotted time frame .
- Slack times at work should be used to perform duties such as cleaning and disinfecting the work area, stocking and rotating supplies, performing equipment maintenance, and maintaining continuing education activities.
