The Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist (LA/P) works with patients in the medical setting to obtain blood specimens through venipuncture and/or finger sticks and non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum and throat swabs for laboratory testing. Performs screening/waived tests and reports results to the appropriate staff. Processes and properly labels specimens to prepare them for reference laboratory testing, gathers and appropriately packs specimens for courier transportation and completes the batching to ensure all specimens are properly tracked. This position may perform Department of Transportation (DOT) drug testing once collector compliance has been achieved. In addition to the laboratory testing, the LA/P is responsible to perform EKG's, set up Home Sleep Studies and Holter Monitors. To be successful in this position, the LA/P will need be thorough when carrying out duties, successful in maintaining records of specimen collections/transports and ensuring follow-up of open orders. Customer service and providing an excellent patient experience are key attributes of the position. This position reports through Graham Medical Group Nursing Director with oversight, competencies and training through Graham Hospital Laboratory Coordinator.
Position Qualifications:
High school graduate. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred. BLS certification through AHA preferred We strongly encourage you to include an updated resume when submitting your application.
