Job Description

Job Overview Join our dedicated healthcare team as a Phlebotomist within the Vanderburgh County Health Department, where your expertise will directly impact community health and wellness. In this vital role, you will perform blood collection and specimen processing with precision and care, ensuring accurate laboratory testing and patient safety. Duties Collect blood samples from patients (mostly pediatric under the age of 7) using capillary and venipuncture phlebotomy techniques, ensuring comfort and safety. Prepare and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing, adhering to proper labeling, handling, and storage protocols. Obtain vital signs and assess patient physiology to support clinical assessments and ensure sample integrity. Maintain strict aseptic techniques during specimen collection to prevent contamination or infection. Document patient information, medical terminology, and laboratory data precisely in accordance with departmental standards. Assist with patient care activities by providing compassionate service, explaining procedures clearly, and addressing patient concerns professionally. Support laboratory operations by following established procedures for specimen processing, transportation, and record keeping. Qualifications Proven experience in laboratory procedures, techniques, or clinical laboratory settings with a focus on specimen collection. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and blood sampling methods such as venipuncture. Prior hospital or healthcare facility experience is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture confidently and accurately while maintaining patient comfort. Familiarity with laboratory safety protocols, aseptic techniques, and infection control practices. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with diverse patient populations and team members. Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
