Job Description

Role:
Collect blood and other patient specimens. Schedule and advise patients for special laboratory tests and procedures. Distribute laboratory reports and assist with writing or updating laboratory procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Maintain a professional and friendly atmosphere for patients and coworkers. Abide by all lab/clinic policies and procedures. Achieve competence in both venipuncture procedures for both pediatric and adult patients. Maintain patient confidentiality. Abide by HIPAA Able to efficiently deliver specimens to main lab and understands the importance of specimen integrity. Achieve competency in swab collection procedures for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. Performs proper check-in procedures at the front desk. Phlebotomist - Demonstrate competency to work independently (14 competency measures). Will take Saturday shifts and perform venipuncture in contracted nursing homes. Properly follow all laboratory/phlebotomy procedures, including correct labeling for specimens. Work with management on teamwork and laboratory goals. Cover lab draws at all facilities in the absence of the nursing home coordinator.
Experience:
Up to six months of similar or related experience or on the job training. Completion of a Phlebotomy certification course or in house phlebotomy certification.
Education:
High School Education or equivalent required. Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology helpful.
Physical Requirements:
Work may require sitting for periods of time; also stooping, bending, and stretching. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.
