Description:
Summary:
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to aid in carrying out assigned tasks, resolving issues, providing training, and suggesting improvements in workflow.
Job Responsibilities:
Experience with blood draws, sample labeling, specimen centrifuging, data recording and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.
Gathers and stores specimens following established protocols.
Clearly and politely explains the venipuncture (blood drawing) process and other specimen collection methods like urine or fecal samples.
Demonstrates proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully comprehends all physician instructions.
Matches lab requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens based on test orders.
Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
Packs specimens for transport.
Stores specimens at required temperatures, places them in appropriate containers, accurately labels them, follows specified procedures for transport while adhering to OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attends annual departmental trainings.
Answers phone calls, provides lab results upon request.
Minimum Requirements:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment w requiredAt least 5 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GEDminimum 2 years of experience
