Phlebotomist - New Hudson Job Description This phlebotomist position provides hands-on experience in an outpatient setting, focusing on high-volume blood collection, specimen processing, and packaging. The role involves close coordination with clinic staff to schedule blood draws and arrange the shipment of specimens to a medical testing facility. This is a weekday, daytime role based in New Hudson, MI, offering both stationary and float opportunities and clear progression with scheduled raises. Responsibilities Perform blood draws (venipuncture) independently approximately 25-30 times per day, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. Collect high-quality blood specimens using proper venipuncture techniques and follow the correct order of draw for multiple tube collections. Process collected specimens according to established procedures, including proper labeling, handling, and preparation for transport. Package specimens accurately and securely to maintain sample integrity during transport to the medical testing site in Novi/Farmington. Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule patient blood draws in an efficient and professional manner. Coordinate the pickup and shipping of specimens, ensuring they are dispatched on time and to the correct testing location. Follow all clinic and laboratory protocols, including safety and infection control procedures, when handling specimens and interacting with patients. Maintain accurate records of all blood draws, specimen processing steps, and shipments in accordance with clinic and laboratory requirements. Collaborate with onsite and offsite team members to support smooth clinic operations and provide a consistent patient experience. Demonstrate reliability and consistent attendance, meeting scheduling expectations and supporting uninterrupted clinic services. Essential Skills At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant with responsibilities that include drawing, processing, and packaging blood samples. Phlebotomy certification or Medical Assistant certification or certificate. Experience completing 200 or more solo blood draws, demonstrating confidence and independence in venipuncture. Proficiency in venipuncture and phlebotomy techniques for outpatient settings. Strong specimen collection skills, including proper patient identification, labeling, and handling. Specimen processing skills, including preparation of samples for transport and adherence to laboratory protocols. Knowledge of the correct order of draw for multiple tube collections. Ability to identify and apply BD Vacutainer tube colors in the correct order of draw. Competence in blood draw procedures using standard phlebotomy equipment. High school diploma or equivalent education. Ability to manage a steady daily workload of 25-30 blood draws while maintaining quality and accuracy. Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and other team members. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate specimen labeling, processing, and packaging. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in outpatient clinic environments. Comfort working both independently and as part of small teams at offsite locations. Ability to adapt to stationary and float assignments based on clinic needs. Reliability in scheduling and availability, with the ability to commit to consistent attendance during the initial 90-day period. Strong organizational skills to coordinate blood draw schedules and specimen shipments. Professional demeanor and patient-focused approach during all interactions. Work Environment This role is based at a clinic location in New Hudson, MI, with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The position offers both stationary assignments at a single site and float opportunities across different outpatient locations, providing exposure to a variety of clinical settings. At the main facility in Farmington, there are approximately 15 team members onsite, while individual offsite locations typically have between 0-2 colleagues, and offsite teams can range from working independently to collaborating with up to 3 team members. Team members wear navy blue scrubs as the standard dress code. The environment emphasizes hands-on phlebotomy experience, consistent weekday schedules, and clear opportunities for progression, including raises at the six-month mark. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Hudson, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
