The Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for overseeing daily phlebotomy operations, providing leadership and training to phlebotomy staff, ensuring compliance with Northwest Labs policies and procedures, and supporting client accounts as needed. This role serves as a clinical resource for both laboratory personnel and medical office staff while helping maintain high standards of patient care, specimen collection, and operational efficiency. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Scheduling Coordinate and manage schedules for mobile and float phlebotomists to ensure adequate staffing coverage across all assigned locations. Monitor staffing needs and adjust schedules to address operational demands and account requirements. Assist with workforce planning to ensure seamless patient service and specimen collection operations. Training & Education Train and onboard new phlebotomists on Northwest Labs policies, procedures, specimen collection protocols, safety standards, and customer service expectations. Provide ongoing education and competency training for current phlebotomy staff regarding evolving company policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Conduct periodic skills assessments and provide coaching to support staff development and performance improvement. Clinical Support Serve as a subject matter expert for phlebotomy procedures and laboratory specimen collection. Answer educational and procedural questions from medical offices, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel. Ensure compliance with all laboratory, OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards. Account Coverage & Operations Provide phlebotomy coverage for client accounts experiencing staffing shortages or increased patient volume. Perform venipuncture, capillary collections, and other specimen collection procedures according to established protocols. Ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, documentation, and transportation requirements are met. Maintain positive relationships with clients, patients, and healthcare providers. Quality & Compliance Promote adherence to Northwest Labs standards of practice and quality assurance initiatives. Assist in identifying process improvements and implementing operational efficiencies. Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by company policies and regulatory agencies. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification preferred. Minimum of 3 years of phlebotomy experience. Previous leadership, training, or supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of specimen collection techniques, laboratory procedures, and regulatory requirements. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Schedule Full-time position. Flexibility to work varying hours based on operational needs and staffing requirements. Travel between client accounts and office locations may be required.
