Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups, ensuring comfort and safety. Verify patient identity by confirming demographic information and obtaining signatures post-venipuncture. Prepare, label, and process specimens accurately for laboratory testing, following established procedures. Maintain detailed records and documentation of procedures, sample collection, and patient interactions. Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, addressing questions and explaining procedures to foster trust. Support laboratory and clinical operations by maintaining cleanliness, organization, and compliance with safety protocols. Demonstrate leadership behaviors, including adherence to process standards, confidentiality, and teamwork. Adapt to varying work environments, including patient service centers, physician offices, or other clinical settings as needed. Work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities in high-volume environments. Uphold all policies related to safety, dress code, and privacy, ensuring a professional workplace.
Required Skills:
Minimum of three years of professional phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections. Strong, proficient venipuncture skills with a focus on patient comfort and safety. Excellent communication and customer service skills with a patient-centric approach. Ability to accurately record data and maintain documentation. Demonstrated ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities. Familiarity with lab accessioning and specimen processing procedures. Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and other relevant safety and regulatory standards. Have Skills:
Medical assistant or paramedic training. Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification. Experience working in a high-volume or multiple site environment. Bilingual abilities to assist diverse patient populations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Medical assistance or paramedic training is preferred. A minimum of three years of active phlebotomy experience, with a focus on pediatric and elderly patient collections. Previous experience in a patient service center environment is highly valued.
Other Requirements:
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record, if travel between multiple locations is required. Flexibility to work varied hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on staffing needs. Ability to work in multiple settings with minimal notice. Physical endurance to handle standing, leaning, and patient interaction for extended periods. Certifications in phlebotomy are preferred and required in certain states (CA, NV, WA).
