Job Overview:
We are seeking a Part Time Phlebotomist who is flexible working at various pre-analytical locations including inpatient/outpatient stations while maintaining an extensive level of attention to detail during patient interactions.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent. Basic Life Support certification required. Reliable vehicle with valid driver license and insurance for outreach phlebotomists. (Phlebotomists working in outreach are assigned to various nursing home locations). Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
1 year of practical phlebotomy experience. Completion of a recognized course in Phlebotomy and/or Medical Assistant or equivalent. Certification with an accredited Agency such as the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, Inc, and/or the National Phlebotomy Association. Experience using effective venipuncture techniques. Knowledge of testing protocols and the use of testing equipment. Superb dexterity and hand-eye coordination are important. Knowledge of legal requirements pertaining to drawing blood, handling specimen samples, and the use of relevant medical equipment.
Scheduling Requirements:
Part Time Monday - Friday 5am - 1030am with rotating weekends + holidays. (If scheduled for weekend, a weekday day off will be provided.) Must be able to travel. (Mileage traveled will be reimbursed)
Essential Functions:
Receiving and determining acceptability of all specimens received in the Department of Pathology. Preparing specimens according to designated protocol for each laboratory procedure and engages in computer activity for the Laboratory Information System and the Hospital Information System. Obtains blood and non-blood specimens from inpatients/outpatients/outreach by venipuncture from the arm and/or micro collections from fingers or infants' heel in a variety of collection tubes or capillaries, some of which contain preservatives or anticoagulants. Understanding proper patient identification methods using two identifiers. Actively contributes to section productivity, and cost effectiveness. Recognizes situations that require referral to Technical Supervisor, Manager, Laboratory Director or Chief of Section. Performs additional tasks as requested by Chairman of Pathology or his/her designee.
