The Phlebotomy Department at University Hospital is an essential part of our patient care team, providing accurate and compassionate specimen collection to support critical diagnostic testing. Our phlebotomists work across various laboratory areas, including chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank, ensuring that every sample is collected and processed with precision and care. Responsibilities What You'll Do Collects blood specimens using proper patient identification procedures and appropriate collection techniques (venipuncture, fingerstick, heel stick). Ensures specimen integrity by following correct handling, labeling, and documentation protocols in accordance with laboratory standards. Performs routine and special procedures, including glucose tolerance testing and blood culture collections, accurately and efficiently. Maintains accurate records by entering and verifying orders and specimen information in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and documenting uncollected samples as required. Adheres to infection control and safety protocols, including proper hand hygiene and standard precautions. Provides excellent patient care and communication, explaining procedures and ensuring a positive experience for patients of all ages
Qualifications What You'll Bring Required:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum of six (6) months of phlebotomy experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred. Successful completion of a phlebotomy course from an accredited school of health-related professions required. Certification by ASCP, NCA, or an equivalent agency preferred; candidates eligible to sit for the certification exam must obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
