Phlebotomist II#26-15790 $20.19-$21.48 per hour New Hartford, NY Onsite Job Description
Summary:
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, trouble shooting, training and making work flow recommendations.
Position Responsibilities:
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport. Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED 2-4 years of experience. This is a float role. Vax requirements are -TB, Hep-B run titer, if not immune candidate can be vaccinated or decline. Color vision screening needed. Location? Floating between 8 locations Will this candidate float? Yes. If so, what locations? I have 8 locations, 2 in Utica NY, 2 in New Hartford NY, 2 in Rome NY, 1 in Barneveld NY, and 1 in Ilion NY. Will the candidate train at the same location they are working? No. If not, what location will they train at? They will train at 1 site before they begin floating to alternate sites daily. What shift (days and time) will the candidate be working? Mon-Fri 545a-6p (8hrs Varied), Rotating Saturdays 615a-1230p (4.5-5.5hrs varied) How many draws are required daily? This could vary between 30-40. What is the work environment (Drs office, Hospital, etc)? Patient service centers, and one doctor's office IOP. Are there any specialties (Peds, all ages, etc)? Peds & All ages Will this person work with a team or alone? I have some multi person sites and some sites where they will work alone. How many weeks of training are required at the start of this role? We usually do at least 2 weeks of training, more if required. Floating Position. We would do their home base closest to their home, which I wouldn't know until I pick a candidate, but we use the main branch as the home base when we submit the Reqs, which would be 28 Campion Rd.
