What You'll Do:
Perform blood draws and specimen collection using straight and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort for a diverse patient population. Accurately label, centrifuge, split, and package specimens following established protocols to maintain sample integrity. Collect various specimens such as urine and fecal samples, explaining collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients. Verify physician's orders and laboratory requisition forms, ensuring all data and labels match to prevent errors. Store and transport specimens according to temperature and safety protocols, adhering to OSHA and environmental regulations. Maintain laboratory equipment, record specimen maintenance data, and ensure cleanliness and decontamination of work areas. Respond to phone inquiries, communicate laboratory results, and assist with other operational duties as needed. Follow all safety guidelines including appropriate PPE usage and participate in annual training sessions to stay compliant with standards.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
Proven experience performing venipuncture and specimen collection in a clinical setting. Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, specimen handling, and quality control processes. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures compassionately and clearly. Knowledge of OSHA, environmental safety standards, and proper PPE protocols. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to ensure accuracy in specimen labeling and documentation. Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a healthcare team.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Prior experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, or diagnostic laboratory. Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent credential. Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or electronic health records (EHR). Bilingual skills to assist diverse patient populations.
Education & Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Valid Phlebotomy Certification required. Minimum 6 months of previous clinical phlebotomy experience is required
Additional Requirements:
Availability to work Monday through Friday, 9 am to 6 pm, with every other weekend rotation (Saturday or Sunday). Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks related to specimen collection. Valid certification/license in phlebotomy is required.
