Job Description

Job Title:
Phlebotomist Job Description The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high-quality care. Responsibilities Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately. Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. Decontaminate equipment and update patient information. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously. Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians' orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Package specimens for transport. Store specimen samples at required temperatures and follow procedures for transport. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Wear appropriate attire including protective gear. Attend annual department training. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries. Essential Skills Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques. Experience with pediatric phlebotomy. Strong administrative skills and attention to detail. 2-3 years of experience in drawing blood. Additional Skills & Qualifications Ability to travel within the state. Clear communication skills and a courteous demeanor. Work Environment The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm, with shifts every other Saturday or Sunday in Newburgh or Poughkeepsie. The position offers a change of scenery with in-state travel opportunities. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Poughkeepsie, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
