Job Description

Laboratory Assistant Job Summary Join our team and be a part of our mission to deliver accessible, high-quality, affordable, and compassionate healthcare. Prairie Lakes Healthcare System is a non-profit healthcare system serving 10 counties in northeastern South Dakota and west-central Minnesota. Wage:
16.50-22.96 This full-time (0.9 status or 36hrs per week) position will perform venous and capillary blood collection from patients (neonates to geriatric), transports specimens, and performs basic clerical tests and data entry functions.
Responsibilities include:
Collects and transports venous and capillary blood specimens, determines specimen acceptability and prepares specimens for technical analysis. Performs basic demographic and test ordering functions on outpatients and marketing patients entering referral lab test results. Performs and reports waived testing under technical supervision.
Performs basic office functions:
answering telephones, maintaining stock, ordering office/paper supplies, maintains and orders phlebotomy supplies. Relays verbal and written information to authorized individuals. Performs and documents all assigned preventive maintenance and safety functions. Administers TB and other intradermal skin tests. Assists with orientation of new staff and students. Assists in identifying Quality Improvement (QI) indicators and data gathering. Other duties may be assigned.
