Job Description

Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient's vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR). Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs, Urine for pregnancy, and PPD updates. Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file results in lab and medical record. Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly. Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies. Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
Education and Experience:
The Candidate shall have valid certification to practice in the state of Texas as a Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Phlebotomist. The Candidate must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. The Candidate shall provide a resume and requested documentation along with copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support stated qualification.
Pay:
$17.00 - $17.75 per hour
