Phlebotomist Position Summary The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing a variety of duties including specimen collection, processing, and workflow support. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot issues, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Perform blood collection procedures including venipuncture and capillary draws Process, label, centrifuge, and prepare specimens for transport Package and ship specimens according to established protocols Restock supplies and maintain a clean, organized work area Disinfect workstations and equipment between patients Perform daily checks (e.g., logbooks, specimen storage, refrigerator checks) Ensure no specimens are left behind and are stored appropriately Accurately update patient information and maintain records Specimen Handling & Patient Care Collect and store specimens following established procedures Clearly explain collection procedures (blood, urine, fecal, etc.) to patients in a professional manner Demonstrate proper technique using straight and butterfly needles Confirm and understand physician orders prior to specimen collection Match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes with 100% accuracy Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required Store specimens at appropriate temperatures to ensure integrity Compliance & Additional Duties Follow OSHA and DEP regulations and safety standards Participate in required annual training and department meetings Answer incoming calls and assist with lab-related inquiries Communicate laboratory results when appropriate Required Skills Phlebotomy Blood Draw & Venipuncture Specimen Collection & Processing Use of Centrifuge Equipment Customer Service & Patient Interaction Experience with Butterfly Needles Top Skills Phlebotomy Venipuncture Blood Draw Specimen Collection Specimen Processing Centrifuge Operation Customer Service Minimum Qualifications Valid Phlebotomy Certification (where required by state) Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting High School Diploma or GED Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Preferred Qualifications 2-4 years of relevant experience Phlebotomy certification (if not required by state) Experience in a Patient Service Center (PSC) or high-volume environment Bilingual (required) Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Spring, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
