This position plays a vital role in patient care by performing blood collection and specimen processing while ensuring a positive and comfortable experience for patients. This role will have a high volume of pediatric patients ranging from newborn to 18 years of age , so the ideal candidate must be patient, gentle, and confident working with children and adolescents.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all ages, with a primary focus on pediatric patients (newborn-18 years). Ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling according to established protocols. Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing, including proper handling, storage, and documentation. Maintain accurate patient records and enter laboratory information into the electronic health record system. Follow all infection control, safety, and quality assurance procedures. Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of laboratory supplies. Provide reassurance and clear communication to pediatric patients and their caregivers during procedures. Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program preferred. Phlebotomy certification (or eligibility) preferred. Previous phlebotomy experience required; pediatric phlebotomy experience strongly preferred . Ability to successfully perform blood draws on infants, children, and adolescents. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with children and families. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining accuracy and compassion.
