Phlebotomist Job Description The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various tasks including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and ensuring accurate record-keeping. Responsibilities Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens. Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment. Update patient information and explain the venipuncture process to patients. Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures. Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to callers. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vienna, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
