JOB DUTIES
This is a regional position located in the Rehabilitation Services department of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai'i. The HHSC Kaua'i Region comprises Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both of which are critical access hospitals, along with the Kaua'i Region Clinics and its affiliates. The Rehabilitation Services department plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals recovering from injuries, surgeries, or illnesses through a comprehensive approach that includes Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), and Speech Therapy (ST). OT focuses on helping patients regain independence in daily activities by improving their ability to perform essential tasks for self-care, work, and leisure. PT aims to restore movement and function through targeted exercises, manual therapy, and pain management techniques, facilitating recovery and enhancing mobility. ST addresses communication and swallowing disorders, providing assessment and intervention to improve speech, language, and cognitive-communication skills. Together, these therapies promote holistic recovery, enabling patients to achieve their personal goals and enhance their overall well-being. The Physical Therapist III performs a full range of professional physical therapy services for individuals and groups. Under general supervision, this role involves preparing treatment plans and administering all physical therapy procedures for a wide array of cases within the scope of a program aimed at treating or preventing physical disabilities or diseases. Responsibilities include performing evaluations, preparing testing summaries, and potentially providing all physical therapy services for a clinic, hospital, facility, or school district. Additional duties may require long hours, weekend and holiday work, and travel to various facilities within the region to meet patient care needs and fulfill operational requirements. This position directly reports to the Physical Therapist IV, position number 29281, or their designee.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. Applicants are required to provide evidence of education, certification(s), and licensure(s).
EDUCATION
A Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program is preferred.
LICENSURES
A valid license with the State of Hawai'i as a Physical Therapist at the time of appointment.

A current, valid State of Hawai'i type #3 driver's license is preferred.
CERTIFICATION
A current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Workers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) at the time of appointment.
PHYSICAL THERAPY EXPERIENCE
No prior experience is required.
DESIRED SKILLS
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Anatomy, neuroanatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and related sciences; principles and practices of physical therapy; the technical procedures and modalities of physical therapy; current treatment techniques, including use and modification of appropriate therapy equipment and appliances; and available physical therapy resources in the community.
ABILITY TO
Independently plan and administer physical therapy treatments based upon medical diagnosis; test for and evaluate clients' physical limitations; explain physical therapy treatments and instruct clients and others in the application of the physical therapy procedures; deal effectively with patients; set up treatment schedules and determine when therapies should be discontinued; keep records and prepare reports; supervise sub-professional physical therapy personnel.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE

CITIZENSHIP AND RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under the federal law for unrestricted employment and at the time of appointment intend to reside in the State of Hawaii during the course of employment with the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT
Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment physical examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
CRIMINAL/BACKGROUND, CREDENTIALING CHECKS
Applicable checks will be conducted periodically, and any associated costs may be borne by the applicant. Applicable checks may include, but are not limited to, state and federal criminal history records, child abuse and neglect registry check, adult protective services registry and sex offender registry records, etc. If a job offer is made or employment is begun prior to completion of all applicable checks, any offer of employment or continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory return of all required checks.

If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection.
