Include:
Evaluate students' gross motor skills, functional mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and physical development to determine eligibility for physical therapy services. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and therapy goals as part of each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Provide direct physical therapy services to students individually or in small groups to improve mobility, posture, endurance, motor function, and access to the educational environment. Collaborate with teachers, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, school psychologists, administrators, and families to support student success and participation in school activities. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, eligibility conferences, annual reviews, and IEP meetings by providing clinical recommendations and progress updates. Monitor student progress, collect data, and adjust treatment plans and interventions based on student performance and educational needs. Recommend, evaluate, and train students and staff on the safe use of adaptive equipment, mobility devices, positioning supports, and assistive technology. Consult with school staff regarding classroom modifications, accessibility, transfers, positioning, and strategies to promote student independence throughout the school day. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, therapy notes, progress reports, and Medicaid billing (when applicable) in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations. Educate families and school personnel on therapeutic techniques, home exercise programs, and strategies to support students' functional mobility across educational settings. Ensure compliance with IDEA, Illinois special education regulations, and district policies related to physical therapy services. Promote student safety, independence, and participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities by addressing physical and mobility-related barriers to learning.
Job Details Position:
Contract (option to renew for the following school year) in a school setting; short-term contract roles are also an option that are available!
Hours:
28-30 hours per week during normal school hours
Caseload:
K-12th grade as a district-wide Physical Therapist Successful Candidates Possess Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program required Current, active Illinois Physical Therapist (PT) license in good standing Experience working with pediatric or school-aged populations preferred; school-based experience is a plus Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and special education processes Experience evaluating students, developing treatment plans, and providing physical therapy services in educational settings Ability to participate in and contribute to Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions Strong knowledge of gross motor development, functional mobility, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills Ability to maintain accurate therapy documentation and progress reports in accordance with district, state, and federal regulations Current CPR certification preferred (if required by the district) Successful completion of all required background checks, fingerprinting, and district onboarding requirements The ability to work in the U.S. without a sponsor New graduates welcome!
