This is a 0.1 FTE position, approximatley 4 hours per week.

Job Purpose Statement:
The Physical Therapist provides physical therapy diagnostic/prescriptive expertise for children ages birth through twenty-one who have identified gross motor, mobility, orthopedic, neuromuscular, and functional movement delays that impact educational performance and access to educational programs and environments.
Job Qualifications, Licensure, Certification:
Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree or Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
Oregon Physical Therapist License
Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program
Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability
Successfully pass district background screening
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge across developmental domains of typical child development, the characteristics of delayed development, and patterns of atypical development associated with disabilities.
Knowledge of physical therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidence-based interventions.
Knowledge of orthopedic, neurological, muscular, skeletal, and developmental conditions affecting student mobility and participation.
Ability to select, administer, and interpret appropriate screening and assessment tools for determining eligibility, service needs, and educational impact.
Ability to evaluate posture, muscle strength, muscle tone, range of motion, balance, coordination, gait, endurance, mobility, and functional motor performance.
Ability to analyze environmental barriers and make recommendations that improve student access, participation, and safety.
Knowledge of adaptive equipment, positioning systems, orthotics, prosthetics, wheelchairs, and mobility devices.
Ability to assess the need for adaptive equipment and provide written recommendations and justification.
Ability to articulate the role of physical therapy in evaluation, intervention planning, and educational programming.
Ability to collaborate effectively with families, educators, administrators, medical providers, and related service personnel.
Ability to develop and implement individualized therapy programs that support educational goals and functional participation.
Ability to train staff and families in positioning, transfers, mobility techniques, equipment use, and therapeutic activities.
Skill in gathering screening and evaluation data, completing checklists, histories, observations, and interviews.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records, progress reports, service logs, and Medicaid documentation.
Ability to maintain safe environments, equipment, and materials.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Demonstrate knowledge of current research and best practices in pediatric and school-based physical therapy.

Essential Job Functions:
Provides evaluation and intervention services for children and students with disabilities whose educational performance is affected by physical, motor, or mobility impairments.
Conducts screenings, assessments, and evaluations to determine eligibility, educational impact, and therapy needs.
Determines level of service based upon current assessment data and provides direct therapy, consultation, monitoring, and collaborative services as appropriate.
Participates in the development, implementation, and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
Evaluates the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions; documents, monitors, and reports student progress toward goals.
Maintains case notes, service logs, Medicaid documentation, progress reports, evaluation reports, and other required records in a timely manner.
Assesses student needs related to positioning, transfers, mobility, accessibility, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications.
Recommends, assists in obtaining, and monitors the effectiveness of adaptive equipment and mobility devices.
Provides consultation and training to staff, families, and community partners regarding physical therapy strategies and accommodations.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with parents, ESD staff, school personnel, medical providers, and community agencies.
Assists in identifying and reducing barriers to participation within educational environments and activities.
Promotes student safety and independence through appropriate intervention, environmental modifications, and staff training.
Provides sufficient supervision, training, and assistance to assigned support personnel in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards.
Assists with dissemination of information regarding physical therapy services and resources available within the community.
Promotes and participates in ongoing program improvement through development and implementation of effective evaluation, treatment, documentation, and service delivery practices.
Develops, in cooperation with program administrator, annual professional goals and objectives and assumes responsibility for accomplishing those goals.

Physical Requirements:
The employee regularly provides hands-on physical therapy services and must be able to safely and effectively perform the physical demands associated with evaluating and treating infants, children, and students with disabilities. Essential functions of the position require frequent physical contact with students and may include lifting, positioning, transferring, supporting, guiding, and assisting students during therapeutic and functional activities. The employee may be required to physically assist students of varying ages, sizes, and abilities with mobility, gait training, balance activities, floor activities, therapeutic exercises, positioning, transfers, and use of adaptive equipment. Duties may be performed in classrooms, therapy rooms, homes, playgrounds, community settings, and other educational environments.

Essential physical duties may include:
Lifting, supporting, repositioning, and physically assisting students during therapy sessions and educational activities.
Assisting students with transfers to and from wheelchairs, adaptive seating systems, classroom furniture, therapy equipment, vehicles, floor positions, and other environments.
Providing physical support and guarding during standing, walking, gait training, stair navigation, balance activities, and therapeutic exercises.
Pushing, pulling, transporting, adjusting, and monitoring wheelchairs, standers, gait trainers, walkers, adaptive tricycles, and other mobility or positioning equipment.
Performing floor-based therapy activities that require frequent kneeling, crouching, sitting on the floor, transitioning between floor and standing positions, and assisting students during these activities.
Utilizing appropriate body mechanics while lifting, transferring, positioning, and supporting students to minimize the risk of injury to students and staff.
Responding appropriately to emergency situations that may require physical intervention to ensure student safety.
